Staurolites are prismatic stones that occur in two pieces that intersect at an angle, creating a cross in its formation. Its name is dervied from the Greek term ‘stauros’, meaning cross, alluding to its distinctive formation which placidly feeds into its significance with the Christian faith. They are also regarded as the ‘Cross of Fairies’, with ancient folklore suggesting that the stones are crystallised fairy tears, becoming a stone of healing.
